Name and surname : Anadele Coetzee

Anadele Yolande Coetzee was born on 8 April 1968 in Graaff-Reinet, a Karoo town in the Eastern Cape. She matriculated in 1986 at the Secondary School Atlantis in the Western Cape. She moved to Namibia with her husband in 1989 where after she, in 1990, assisted with the teaching of pupils at the Oranjezicht Secondary School in Keimoes.

In 1991 she started work at the Western Cape Regional Council (now Cape Metropolitan Council) as a finance official in the Town Administration Department until December 1993 when she moved to Johannesburg with her husband after he got transferred by the Defence Force. 

Her career in the Public Service began in 1994 when she joined the Department of Defence as a Personnel Clerk at Group 42 and then 21 Battalion in Lenz. She was transferred to Upington where she worked at 8 SA Infantry Battalion and later at Group 23 as a Human Resources Clerk. She was promoted to a Principal Personnel Officer in 2004 and in 2007 got involved in the closing-down process of the commando units and the Group Headquarters. She was promoted to Personnel Officer and has been assisting with HR audits since the closing down of the commandos and some other units in the Northern Cape.

She completed several empowerment programmes and skills development courses such as Conflict Management and Negotiation Skills, Labour Relations and Advanced Labour Relations, Transformation Management, Business Management, Customer Service Excellence, etc. She obtained certificates in Records Management and as a Skills Development Facilitator. In 2014 she successfully completed the English Advanced Language course, normally scheduled for and required by senior staff members in the Defence Force. 

Owing to her knowledge of public service and departmental policies and procedures as well as her willingness to assist, she is often approached by colleagues, both uniform and civilian, for advice and assistance on work-related and social issues. She is a member of the Workplace Skills Committee as well as the Military Community Wellness Committee, and acts as Advisory to the command cadre on issues emanating from the Labour Relations Forum in the unit.

She joined the PSA in 1997 and has been a shop steward since 1998. She was elected Secretary of the Orange Regional Branch in Upington in 1999. When the PSA Statute changed and departmental branches were introduced, she was elected Secretary of the Defence Provincial Branch Northern Cape. She became Chairperson of the Defence Provincial Branch Northern Cape in 2008 and kept the position after the elections in 2012 and 2016. In 2012, she was elected Secretary of the Defence National Branch. In the same year, she also became the Deputy Chairperson of the GPSSBC Departmental Branch Defence until 2013 when she was elected Chairperson of the GPSSBC Departmental Branch Defence. This position she held until the GPSSBC Annual General Meeting in 2015 when she recused herself from the Chairperson position to become a negotiator at the GPSSBC Departmental Chamber Defence - a position she still holds. She took over from Rob Moody as National Chairperson of Defence after his retirement in October 2014 and after being re-elected in 2016 she is still serving as National Chairperson for Defence.
