Annetjie Rencken was born on 10 February 1966 in Bloemhof. She matriculated in 1982 from A J Koen High School in Bloemhof. In 2000 she successfully completed a Certificate in Business Skills and in 2001 she obtained a tertiary qualification in Public Management from Unisa.
Annetjie's public sector career started in 1983 as a Post and Telecommunication Relieving Officer. She joined the National Department of Education in 1989 where she is currently employed as Senior Administration Clerk.
She joined the PSA in 1995 and in 1996 served as Secretary of the Departmental Branch Education. In 2000 she was elected as National Chairperson in the constituency. Since her election, Annetjie has obtained certificates and attended various courses in labour relations between 2002 and 2006. In 2004 she also obtained a HIV/Aids Peer Educator Certificate.
Annetjie uses her skills to the advantage of the PSA constituency in the National Education Bargaining Chamber. Her position as Vice-Chairperson in the Chamber ensures a fair bargaining platform. She also serves on the National and Provincial Skill and Training Development Committee as well as on the Policy and Bursary Committee. Her outstanding strategies ensured a growth of more than 300% in her constituency after she was elected as the National Chairperson of the Education Branch in 2000. This remarkable achievement enstablished the PSA as the largest union in the Departmental Chamber.
